One way to conserve gas is to carpool to work. If you live near someone you work with, it’s easy. If you don’t, there are many resources out there to help you find a carpool. I’ve done the legwork for you.
Let’s start with Craigslist. There you can find postings from people looking to share a commute or a ride out of town. The postings are listed by day, but you can search the site for keywords like “Huntersville” or “South Park”.
Share the Ride N-C.org has a database of people who work in North Carolina - and parts of South Carolina. You enter your home address, work address and work hours to find prospective carpoolers.
I-Carpool.com is very similar. You register your information and the site's zip code matching service finds you prospective carpooling mates.
With e-rideshare.com you register, then search listings based on your needs: commuting, local travel and cross country trips.
Pooln.com is a carpool network where you register, enter your home and work zip codes, and it gives you potential carpool mates.
Another way to save gas is to take public transportation. Consider taking a Cats bus to your destination, or ride on the Lynx light rail.
If you burn a lot of gas taking your children to and from activities, there's a website that helps you organize a carpool with other parents. It's called divide the ride.com. You set up the carpool and invite people to participate. Then the website takes care of sending out updates and reminders via email and text message.
Carpooling won't just save you money. It will also improve the quality of our air. Its just another way to do your part for the environment and your wallet too!
