Recycle Batteries and Recharge Your Battery Purchases

Batteries are a fact of life.  We need them to power the electronic and wireless world in which we live.  But batteries contain heavy metals like lead and cadmium that are harmful to the environment and billions of these heavy metal batteries are sent to the landfill every year where they can release these harmful metals into our environment.

How can you Do Your Part?  First recycle all your spent disposable and rechargeable batteries.  The metal and plastic from the old batteries can be used to make new ones and  you’ll be keeping hazardous waste out of our landfill.

The second way to do your part is to reduce the number of discarded batteries  by investing in rechargeable batteries.  One rechargeable battery can replace a 1000 disposable batteries  and the new ‘low self discharging batteries’ can hold a charge for up to 1 year and are already charged when you buy them.

Do Your Part and convert your home AND business to  use rechargeable batteries. And make sure that every spent battery is properly disposed.  Only a handful of curb-side recycling programs will accept batteries but there are many retailers and full service recycling centers that will take your old batteries.  Earth911.org and the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation both provide online directories to help you find battery recyclers near where you live.
