Give That Sports Gear A Second Life

Many of us are looking for ways to stay in shape or have some fun and we don't want to spend a fortune. You can do your part and save money when you give a second life to sporting equipment thats already been used.

They look nearly brand new and they are 50 to 75% off the new retail price. Shopping at resale and consignment shops is growing in popularity. It's not surprising given the current state of the economy. But if you think you don't want someone's seconds you should take another look.

Exercise equipment rarely breaks down and you can save hundreds when you buy used.   A four year old Precor elliptical machine can be found for just over a thousand dollars.  It retails at $3500 new.

Stores like Play It Again Sports specialize in offering you a good deal, whether you're looking for gear or trying to sell it.   John Barker works at Play It Again Sports and says "my bosses philosophy is that if you take the time to bring it in...we will buy it."

Today the stock in Play it Again Sports stores is about 75% new and 25% used. The company hopes more people will bring in their used goods so they can increase that percentage in its stores.  Some of the used gear in the store hasn't ever been on the court.

For example, tennis rackets that have been used as demos by sales representatives can be picked up for half the price.  They've never been used in a game and still have plastic wrap on the handle.

So before you drop your hard earned cash for new, fresh out of the box sporting goods, take a look at resale and consignment shops. You'll be doing your part by reusing perfectly good sporting gear that would have been needlessly tossed in the trash. You'll save energy, materials and money all at the same time!
