Halloween Makeup

Dressing up for Halloween can be fun for children of all ages and we found some recipes for Halloween makeup that will help you do your part to reduce waste and reuse items you already have in your home. .

Here’s a recipe we found at familycorner.com:

- Stir together 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with ½ teaspoon of cold cream

- Add ½ teaspoon of water and stir.

Use food coloring to make your desired shade.  Use an egg carton to mix serveral different shades.

Apply the makeup to a clean, dry face. You can put it on with your fingers or a small brush The makeup washes off easily with soap and water. If you make it in advance, be sure to store it in an airtight container.

My daughter Sarah wants to be a vampire for Halloween. So, after applying our homemade makeup, we need to add some drops of fake blood around her mouth.

Put some light corn syrup in a bowl.  Add a small squirt of dish soap to make the fake blood easy to remove. Add red food coloring until you have the right color. You can add a bit of blue or green if you want to make it look darker.

To create dark circles around her eyes we gathered some old eye shadow. You’ll want deep blue, charcoal gray and shimmery green. Apply the blue first with a wet makeup brush. Use your fingers to dab on gray and green. this also works great for making bruises.

You can make your ghouls look great this Halloween and still do your part when you make your own Halloween makeup. You’ll save money by using items you already have in your home, and  you’ll reduce the amount of packaging created and ultimately thrown  away.
