Put Those Coffee Grounds To Work In Your Yard

According to The National Coffee Association 54% of the American adults  drink up to three cups of coffee every day.   That makes for an awful lot of coffee grind waste. Instead of tossing the grinds put them to work in your garden.

Coffee grinds are a natural way to fertilize your lawn, vegetable garden, plants and trees.  The grinds contain nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, all things that your plants love, especially acid-loving plants like camellias, azaleas, rhododendron and hydrangeas.   All you have to do is sprinkle the grinds around the base of your plant but be careful when using around new tender plants.

Coffee grinds have also been shown to keep slugs and snails away from your plants and the caffeine will kill the larvae of budworms that love to munch on your geraniums.

If you're not a coffee drinker or you don't generate enough for your garden, consider recycling the grinds from work or you can even check with your neighborhood coffee shop.  Starbucks for example will give you used coffee grinds for free.

So do your part and use coffee grinds as fertilizer in your yard.  You're garden will love you for it and you'll be keeping hazardous chemicals out of your yard.
