Save Our Creeks - Don't Over Fertilize

It's that time of year when many of us are thinking about our lawns and gardens.  Sure a little fertilizer can help keep your lawn green and your garden blooming but do your part by only using what you need.

When you use too much fertilizer or leave excess fertilizer on the nearby sidewalk and driveway you are in fact fertilizing nature.  This however is not a good thing.  When it rains the excess fertilizer will be washed into a nearby storm drain and carried untreated to a local creek or stream.  The excess nutrients from the fertilizer promotes algae blooms.  The algae can choke the life out of the ecosystem killing fish and plants.

So do your part and use only the amount of fertilizer that you need and sweep the excess off of the sidewalks and driveway.
