A Big Break for Making Better Choices!

Do Your Part to make smart home improvement choices now - and you'll reap the rewards at tax time next year!  There are plenty of deductions that will be in effect for 2009 that weren't for 2008.
 
Energy efficient windows, doors, and skylights can save energy and will qualify you for a $500 tax credit.  Other items on the list like roofing materials, insulation, air conditioners, heat pumps and water heaters can also get you a tax credit  but do your research before you buy!  IRS.gov lays out  detailed information on the which products are approved.
 
If you are in the market for a new car this year, hybrids are a good option for the environment and a great choice when it comes to taxes.  You'll use less gas and create less air pollution and new plug in models have a credit of up to $7500. 
 
Many states also offer deductions or credits.  North Carolina, for example gives deductions for installing solar heating systems for pools.
 
There's also a big deduction for installing a wind-energy system in your home.
 
And there's even a deduction if you donate to a non-profit that is working on a renewable energy project!

So, Do Your Part and tread lightly on the planet by investing in products this year that will save you plenty of money at tax time next year.
