ENERGY STAR Washing Machine Saves Thousands of Gallons of Water Every Year
Doing chores around the house isn’t always fun, but you can at least feel good about doing your part for the environment when you choose energy star appliances.
The average household does nearly 400 loads of laundry every year. That uses more than 13,000 gallons of water.
ENERGY STAR is a government program that recognizes products that use less energy and natural resources.
Here’s how ENERGY STAR rated washers work:
You can get a front loading or top loading machine that uses less water by streaming in the water instead of filling large tubs. Most have no central agitators, so you can also wash larger loads. And, the spin cycle actually work 2 to 3 times faster than conventional washers, so your clothes don’t need as much time in the dryer.
By the way, dryers don’t qualify for ENERGY STAR labels since there is little difference in energy use between various models.
An ENERGY STAR rated washer will save you about $50 a year on your utility bills because they use less water and energy to operate. Using less energy reduces air pollution and greenhouse gases caused by burning fossil fuels.
So the next time you’re in the market for a washing machine, choose one with a ENERGY STAR symbol. You’ll be doing your part to reduce the amount of energy and water you use in your home.
