Father's Day Green Gift Ideas
Make this Father’s day an opportunity to do your part by giving dad something wonderfully green. Here are just a few ideas!
Light up dad’s journey with a crank powered flashlight. It requires no batteries, just a little elbow grease. Some of these flashlights will also charge up cell phones and receive NOAA radio weather alerts.
Or you can give dad a solar powered flashlight. Most home improvement and hardware stores carry them. I found one at Wal-mart for under $20 A six-hour charge in the sun will yield ten hours of light.
Next on my list is an electric mower. These are available from Target to Sears. They are 75% quieter than gas powered mowers and they don’t require you to fill them with ever-costlier gasoline. According to the EPA, America’s gas powered lawn movers account for as much as 5% of the entire country’s total air pollution problem.
And if you feel compelled to stand by the hard to understand tradition of giving dad a tie, include a bamboo tie rack to organize his ties. Bamboo is a sustainable resource and makes for a cool look in the closet. You can pick one up at stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond for $20.
Have a happy Father’s day and make it an occasion to do your part!
