We’ve all seen the labels for organic cotton but what does it really mean and why should we buy it? Let me tell you why buying organic cotton is another way to Do Your Part™ for the environment and our economy.According to the Sustainable Cotton Project, 25% of all the pesticides used in the U.S. are applied to cotton, and it’s only grown in 19 states. Some of these pesticides are made from chemicals classified as the most toxic by the Environmental Protection Agency.
Organic cotton is grown without using heavy insecticides and chemical fertilizers. Pests are controlled using a clever combination of natural pest predators, beneficial insects and trap crops. Compost and natural fertilizers promote growth.
