ENERGY STAR Refrigerators and Dishwashers Will Save You Money

Your kitchen could be hiding a big money waster, and we’re not talking about rotting leftovers in the fridge.

In today’s do your part we take a look at choosing the best kitchen appliances for the environment and your wallet.

Appliances recognized by the government’s Energy Star program meet strict energy efficiency guidelines.

Energy Star refrigerators use about half as much energy as models made before 1993. They use high efficiency compressors, improved insulation and more precise temperature and defrost mechanisms.

Even models made at recent as 2001 use up to 40% more energy than an energy star frig.

Replacing a dishwasher bought before 1994 with an Energy Star model could shave more than $30 a year off your utility bills.

Energy Star rated dishwashers use more than 40 percent LESS energy than the federal minimum standard. They also use about a third less water.

Remember to recycle old appliances when you upgrade to an energy star rated model.  Many retailers will offer that service if you ask.

Do Your Part for the environment and your pocket book and consider investing in a refrigerator or dishwasher with the energy star logo.
