Organic Produce That's Worth The Money
Buying at least some organic produce is a great way to do your part for the environment and your family's health. Today, we take a look at which fruits and vegetables are best when grown organically.
The Environmental Working Group looked at government data on which conventionally grown produce have the most pesticides. Here are the so-called “dirty dozen”:
Peaches, apples, imported grapes, sweet bell peppers, celery, nectarines, strawberries, cherries, lettuce, pears, spinach and potatoes.
For these fruits and vegetables, it’s worth the extra money to buy organic. But you can save your money on many other fruits and veggies.
Here are 12 items that tested clean for pesticides 90% of the time:
Kiwi, bananas, cabbage, broccoli, eggplant, avocado, onions, frozen sweet corn, pineapple, mango, frozen sweet peas and asparagus.
No matter what type of produce you choose, always wash it thoroughly before serving it.
So be a smart shopper; buy organic when it’s necessary and save your money when it’s not. You’ll be doing your part for your family’s health and you'll tread more lightly on the planet.
