Buy Locally Grown Apples

Fall brings crisp evenings, a brilliant display of colors and the apple season in North Carolina. This is one of the top apple producing states in the nation.  Approximately eight million bushels of apples can be produced in North Carolina in a given year.

Do Your Part by buying locally grown fruit instead of apples shipped in from other states. More produce being consumed locally means less fuel used to ship produce. That’s good for the environment, our natural resources and it translates into a cost savings for you as well.

You can buy locally grown produce at farmers markets, like this one off Kings Drive in Charlotte.

You can also look for locally grown produce at your grocery store.

There are many farms in North Carolina where you can pick your own apples as well. You’ll find a link to more information about those farms in the text version of this story.

Fall also brings Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year. One holiday tradition is to eat apples dipped in honey. It signifies the wish for a sweet new year.

So, now that you have your locally grown apples it’s time to get your locally harvested honey. You can find local honey at many farmers markets as well as several Charlotte area stores. So Do Your Part and buy local apples and honey.
