Recycling paper is such an easy way to Do Your Part.  Most of us know you can put newspapers, magazines and broken-down cardboard boxes out with your curbside recycling. But you can put much more in your red bin.

For example, junk mail. Toss it all in your recycling bin - including those envelopes with plastic windows. Recycle old bills and bank statements as well; just be sure to shred any documents containing personal information.

You can recycle wrapping paper as well.  Just toss the bows and ribbons in the trash.

Also, did you know that those tall cans made out of spiral paper with metal bottoms can be recycled? Many snacks and baby formula powders come in these containers. Just rinse out any food residue.

Finally, don’t forget about those paper boxes many household and beauty products are packaged in.  When you unwrap your moisturizer, deodorant or toothpaste, put the paper box in your recycling bin.

One item you CANNOT recycle is milk cartons and pizza boxes. These kinds of items are contaminated paper and should be put in the trash.

To learn more about what you can and cannot recycle, visit the Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling Web site:
www.charmeck.org/Departments/LUESA/Solid+Waste/Residential+Recycling/Curb+It.htm

Enter your zip code at Earth911.org to find a list of what's excepted in your curb side recycling program.  You can also find a list of recycling centers across the county where you live.
