Candles are always a big hit on Mother’s day. Instead of buying Mom a candle made with paraffin (a product of petroleum), check out candles made of soy or beeswax. Not only do they burn cleaner and longer, they are better for the environment. They are both made from renewable resources. Make sure the candlewick is lead free as well. A report from the EPA and CPSA found that the lead found in lead wicks could vaporize when the candle is burning. Once the lead is vaporized, it can be inhaled. The report also expressed concern that when inhaled by children, the lead levels in their blood could elevate.
There really is no sense in decompressing from life’s stresses with a candle that pollutes the air in your home and costs the planet non-renewable resources.
