Do your part at home by using native plants in your garden.  Indigenous or native plants are trees and shrubs that have thrived naturally in an environment for many years.  Native Carolina plants are used to our weather, the pests and the soil and therefore they thrive better than non-native plants.  Native plants don't have to be watered as often, they don't need fertilizer or pesticide as often and therefore they require less work.

Native plants also provide the natural wildlife in our area with food and shelter.   For example, purple coneflower is native to the Carolinas and attracts stunning American Goldfinches to your garden. Another popular native choice is the Carolina Jasmine. This twining vine provides the perfect nest for Robins and Purple Finches. And the Spring show courtesy of punchy azaleas is tough to beat! For summer color, try yellow Black-eyed Susans.  There are many varieties of native plants in the Carolinas and both North and South Carolina have Native Plant Societies.  You can learn view the extensive list of native plants in our area by visiting their websites.

So do your part in the garden by using native plants. They're are many beautiful choices and they're easy to care for giving you more time to enjoy your yard and garden.
