Painting can be a great way to liven up a room and now there are many greener choices to help you do your part.

Paint contains VOCs...volatile organic compounds.  VOCs are gasses that are emitted from certain solids and liquids and are air pollutants.

According to the EPA, the air inside our homes  can be up to three times more polluted and contain 10 times more VOCs than the air outside.  So choosing a low or No VOC paint makes good sense and due to consumer demand  you can find them in most any hardware or paint supply store.  That increased demand has also brought the prices down and low or no VOC paint is now more cost effective.

No or low VOC paints are water based so they are also easier to clean up.  You can clean the brushes with a mild soap and water avoiding the use of turpentine, which is another source of VOCs.

VOCs aren't just a problem in our homes.  They are also a necessary ingredient of ground level ozone.  Cutting back on VOC products will also make our outdoor air cleaner.

Freshaire Choice
is one of many companies that offer low or no VOC paints.  While supplies last they are currently offering three 2 ounce samples of their paint for free.  You can learn more  here.
