Don't Throw It Away - FreeCycle It!
April 21, 2008 | view all items
There is a rapidly growing group of nearly 15-thousand people in the Charlotte Metro area who have one mission: to change the world one item at a time! They do it by keeping items they no longer want or can't use out of the landfills. They give the item to someone else that does need it.
It's called free-cycling! Log onto freecycle.org see what's on the list. You'll find some big ticket items up for grabs like hot tubs, wooden play sets, furniture, televisions, children's toys, fish tanks, tools, and even a hand truck.
The only catch is that you have to pick the items up yourself. There are plenty of tips for freecyclers on the site about how to do this safely. You can always meet the person in a crowded shopping center parking lot to make the exchange, they don't have to come to your home.
Of course the site works both ways. You may have something to offer or you may find something to take. You know what they say "One man's trash is another man's treasure".
Registration is free and there are freecycle groups in thousands of communities across the country.
