What's with all the cloudy weather!

I don't know about you but I am ready for some sunshine! The calendar says it's spring, the flowers are blooming so where is that warm spring sunshine? The Carolinas have been bombarded with weather systems that have either stalled or limped across the area bringing all of the cloudiness and yes, some beneficial rains. The grey weather can be a bummer though, especially when we are facing our fifth weekend in a row of rain. Plans for the golf course may be dashed again and all of those Little Leaguers may be looking for something else to do.
The good news is that with all of the recent rain the landscape is lush with color and the water level of our man-made lakes have returned to normal. To date we are slightly below normal rainfall for the month and three inches behind for the year. Add that to the 15 inch deficit last year and it's no wonder that drought conditions continue across the region. It's a silent kind of drought though. One you really can't see anymore. It's the water in the free flowing rivers and streams that remain low and the underground water supply still has room to improve. What happens if we bake right through summer again? It won't take much to put us right back in dire straits with our water supply. We must continue to be mindful of the water we use today and everyday.
The bad news is that even when it's not raining it seems to be cloudy all of the time lately and the clouds are coming back for yet another weekend. At least it will be cloudy and raining too. We need the rain and it should wash the remaining cankerworms out of the trees! I'll just have to look forward to Tuesday when those Carolina Blue Skies return.

Hi Terri. It does seem for all the grey cloudiness we have had to endure, we should have received a tad more rain than we did.
On a separate note, how come we have "Earth Day" but no "Sky Day?" Since you offer info on both realms, maybe you can be the one to initiate "Sky Day." 8)

The jet stream that is causing us to be low on rain may have something to do with the clouds.
I actually prefer the clouds as it moderates the temperature.
Perhaps the lack of sunshine will slow down the evaporation of the water supply from the lakes and streams, correct? It may be a blessing in disguise!
