About Terri
Biography
Terri Bennett has been providing weather forecasts in the Charlotte area for more than 16 years. Her work on television has been recognized by the Radio and Television News Directors Association of the Carolinas as the "Best Weathercaster in the Carolinas" numerous times. Her weather coverage during Hurricanes Floyd and Hurricane Frances earned her two prestigious Mid-South Regional Emmys for Excellence. In January of 2008, Terri received the "Excellence in Science Reporting by a Broadcast Meteorologist Award" from the American Meteorological Society for the WaterWise franchise she developed on WCNC-TV.
Terri's fascination for weather began while growing up in the "Tornado Alley" of Brandenburg, Kentucky. Many nights spent in the storm cellar left her with a healthy appreciation for Mother Nature. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado. Her first television job took her to KWWL-TV in Waterloo, Iowa. Just one year later Terri moved to Charlotte in 1991 to join Ray Boylan at WSOC-TV, becoming the first female meteorologist to work in the area. In 1997 Terri took on the role of Chief Meteorologist at WCNC-TV where she would spend the final 10 years of her television career.
Terri has been sharing her wealth of knowledge about weather, astronomy, gardening and the environment through her work on television, the internet and a daily column in the Charlotte Observer. In September of 2007, Terribennett.com was launched to serve as the single source of Terri's knowledge and expertise.
Terri and her husband Andy have two children together. She counts her stepson Tony and his wife Tracey among her many blessings. Terri is a huge animal lover and can frequently be seen with her many other "four-legged" children.
